I dear readers !

Just a short article between two selections ! I'm actually preparing two selections, an Oriental one and another of oldschool jazz biguines 7 inches records from French West Indies ! Hope you liked my Thai selection !

But for now, the track I wanted to present is taken from the first album from Bongos Ikwue, the well known Nigerian singer !

This LP is highly recommended, a mixture of Folk, Funky and Groovy tracks !

Hi Everyone !

Sorry for the delay, I just came back from Thailand yesterday evening ! Found around dope 80 records there, listenend more than 2000 records.. I'm preparing right now a new Thai selection !

I selected for today a track from the great William Onyeabor, from Enugu, Nigeria.

Mr Onyabor was a very prolific composer and producer (9 records between 1977 and 1985), owner of the Wilfilms records label and who had his own record pressing plant.

Secret USSR agent, Businessman that became billionaire working in oil or movie producer, no one could say who is exactly William Onyeabor..

This song is taken from the first LP of Mr Onyeabor, originally out in 1977. Actually 2 versions of this LP exist, because it was "remixed" later in a more electronic way, with synths and drummachines.

 I decided to present you "Something you'll never forget", a groovy and catchy funky track taken from the 2nd version of his first LP, hope you'll like it !

A rainy sunday, perfect for the track of the week : "Ecoute Ma Melodie" (hear my melody), a Beninese afrobeat track about love, from 1980, sung by Eskill and Vicky, backed by the famous Tout Puissant Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou !

Ignace de Souza et L'Orchestre Black Santiago - Paulina (Benin, 1972, Disques Tropiques)

L'Orchestre Black Santiago, leaded by Ignace de Souza, was one of the most influent Beninese bands of the late 60's and the 70's.

Created in 1966 in Ghana (due to politics reasons of the time), the group was composed by musicians from Ghana and Benin, with some people that will become very famous later, like the drummer Danialou Sagbohan or the singer Honoré Avolonto.

The band used to play many different musical genre at the time, from Highlife to Boléro or Afrobeat (they even played a fex times with the King of Afrobeat, Fela Ransome Kuti !).

The track I wanted to make you discover here, "Paulina", is one of their first recordings, taken from one of their 7inches out in 1972.

Nervous drums, killer trumpet, syncopated organ, hope you will appreciate this very early Afrobeat song !

Maitre Gazonga et l'International Challal - Les Jaloux Saboteurs (Ivory Coast, 1984, Tangent)

Ahamat Saleh Rougalta, also called "Maître Gazonga" was born in 1948 in Chad.

 During all of his childhood, he was very involved into sports, but decided to become a musician at the age of 20. A few years later, he created his band, "L'international Challal", that became soon one of the most famous groups of the country, always on tour.

The track I wanted to present you today, "Les Jaloux Saboteurs" (his most popular song) was recorded in 1984 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and is an African classic song in most of the countries of the continent.
