Coulibaly Tidiani, born on the 31th of December 1941 in Kankala town, was one of the most famous singer from Burkina Faso (former Upper Volta) in the 70's, as well as Amadou Balake.
He began his carrer in the 60's playing with the Volta Jazz Orchestra, and founded his own band in the 70's, the "Orchestre Dafra Star de Bobo-Dioulasso", one of the most popular band at the time in the country.
He recorded three albums, and a few 7 inches records.
The song I wanted to present you today, "Sie Koumgolo", an uplifting melancholic ballad with psychedelic guitars and wild piano parts, is taken from his last LP, recorded in 1979 in Ivory Coast.
Dele Abiodun is one of the most important figures of the Juju scene, a musical genre from Nigeria between Jazz, Highlife and Traditionnal music.
He was born in 1948 in Sobe (Nigeria), a town on the boundary between West and Mid-West Nigeria.
He made his first steps in music as a drummer in his school band, and studied music has a teenager in Accra (Ghana) at the Young Pioneer School of Music.
In 1970, he founded his band, Prince Admiral Dele Abiodun and His Top Hitters Band (influenced by musicians such as Cardinal Rex Lawson or I.K. Dairo), and recorded more than 20 albums from the 70's to the 90's.
He stills lives and performs in Nigeria today and he's the president of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria.

Ahmed Malek, born in 1931 in Bordj El Kiffan (Algeria) was one of the most prolific Algerian musician and movie score composer.
He composed soundtracks for a dozen and dozen of movies (Les Vacances de l'Inspecteur Tahar, Omar Gatlato, Aziza..), of TV shows and documentaries.
He died in 2008 in Bordj El Kiffan.
I decided to make you discover one of my favourite tracks from him, composed in 1967 for the movie "Hassan Terro", directed by the film maker Mohamed Lakhdar Hamina.
You'll understand why Ahmed Malek was nicknammed "The Algerian Ennio Morricone" !

Sincerely sorry for that, im working a lot at the moment on something I can't talk.. I was also digging, cleaning and organizing my records, and, also, very busy with my job (that is faaar away with records !)

Amadou Traore dit Balake is a burkinabé singer who recorded many songs from very different genre (mandingo rhythms, afrobeat, salsa, quiet balads, soukouss) and in many countries/cities all over the world (New york, Abidjan, Paris, Accra, Lagos..).
This beautiful 7 inch was recorded in 1969 with l'Orchestre Super Volta, in the country of Burkina Faso, on the great "La Compagnie Voltaique du Disque" label (CVD), known for its magical psych tracks.
This track deals with a musician (him, maybe ?), who performs every night at the Don Camillo Club. Each night, coming back from his show, this guy meets the same prostitute he is totally in love with, but the girl prefers to spend her night with white guys in Abidjan's hotels, because they are rich, and musicians are poor ("Musicien c'est pas quelqu'un, tu es pauvre garçon").
There are actually 2 different versions of this track (the lyrics are the same), because Amadou re-recorded it in the 70's for one of his LP's, out on the famous Ivory Coast's SACODIS label, in an afrobeat way.
I definitely prefer the first quiet version, hope you'll understand why (listen to this amazing hypnotic guitar..).
Amadou is still alive, and plays now with the famous Africando salsa band.
